"Locker sites" are not coryright violators: US Court

A federal court in the United States has ruled that “locker sites”, on which anyone can upload a file and share its link with others, are not directly responsible for copyright infringement. However, they can be tried for inducing and profiting from copyright infringing activities.

The case question was filed against Hotfile.com by the MPAA, an association of Hollywood right shoulders that has filed hundreds that has filed hundreds of lawsuits against file sharers so far. Hotfile.com claims it has no knowledge of or liability over the content its users upload, however the site does incentivize the uploading of files that prove to be popular. The lawsuit also alleges that Hotfile.com relies on third party pirate search sites to allow users to find specific movies on it.
